Lash Lift vs. Extensions: I'll Tell You What Most Salons Won't
I get asked this constantly, and I want to give you the answer I'd give a close friend — not a sales pitch for the more expensive option.
I offer lash lifts at Full Circle Beauty. I don't offer extensions. That's a deliberate choice, and I'll explain why — but first let me break down both honestly.
What a Lash Lift Does
A lash lift curls and lifts your natural lashes from the root using a chemical process — similar to brow lamination. Add a tint and your lashes look dark, defined, and dramatically longer without adding any synthetic hair. The result looks completely natural because it is your natural lashes, just enhanced.
Results last 6–8 weeks. Zero maintenance after the first 24 hours. No fills, no special cleansers, no restrictions on how you sleep. You can swim, sweat, wear sunglasses — live your life.
What Extensions Do
Lash extensions are individual synthetic lashes bonded to your natural lashes one by one. They add significant length and volume that a lift can't match. They look dramatic and full immediately.
The tradeoff: fills every 2–3 weeks (at $60–$100 each time), oil-free eye products only, specific sleeping positions, and cumulative stress on your natural lashes if they're not maintained properly or if you go too long between fills.
The Real Cost Comparison
Lash lift + tint at Full Circle Beauty: $99. Next appointment in 6–8 weeks. Total cost per year: roughly $600–$800.
Extensions (initial full set): $150–$300+. Fills every 2–3 weeks at $60–$100. Total cost per year: $1,500–$2,500+.
Why I Chose to Offer Lifts and Not Extensions
I trained at Aveda, where the philosophy centers on skin and hair health — not just aesthetics. When I was deciding what to offer at Full Circle Beauty, I thought a lot about what I'd actually recommend to my clients long-term. A lash lift enhances what you have with minimal risk and zero ongoing stress on your natural lashes. Extensions, when maintained perfectly, are beautiful — but imperfect maintenance is very common, and the damage can be significant.
For most of my clients — busy San Diego women who want to look great without a high-maintenance routine — a lash lift + tint is genuinely the better answer. It gives them amazing lashes for less money, less time, and less risk.
If you want dramatic volume that a lift can't give you, I'll tell you that honestly and point you toward a great extension specialist. That's not a service I offer, and I'd rather be honest than upsell you into something that doesn't fit your life.
