How Often Should You Get a Facial? Here's What I Actually Recommend
When people ask me this question, they usually expect me to say "once a month, religiously." And while monthly facials are genuinely ideal for most people, the real answer is more nuanced — and it depends entirely on your skin.
I trained at Aveda in Portland, where the philosophy was always client-first and skin-first. Not upselling, not cookie-cutter schedules. What does this person's skin actually need? That's the question I bring to every facial I do at Full Circle Beauty.
The Baseline: Every 4–6 Weeks
Your skin has a natural cell turnover cycle of roughly 28–30 days. Getting a facial in that window means you're consistently clearing the buildup, congestion, and dead skin before it becomes a problem. You're maintaining, not just reacting.
For most people with relatively balanced skin, every 4–6 weeks is the sweet spot. It's frequent enough to see cumulative results but not so frequent that you're over-treating.
If You Have Acne-Prone or Congested Skin
Every 3–4 weeks. Congested skin accumulates faster, and waiting 6 weeks means you're playing catch-up at every appointment instead of actually getting ahead of it. When I work with clients who have consistent breakouts, we usually see a real turning point around month 3 of regular treatments — the skin starts to regulate, the congestion clears, and we can shift to maintenance mode.
If You Have Dry, Sensitive, or Mature Skin
Every 4–6 weeks is usually fine, but the type of facial matters as much as the frequency. Sensitive skin doesn't need aggressive exfoliation — it needs barrier repair, hydration, and calm. Mature skin benefits from consistent collagen-stimulating treatments more than infrequent deep cleans.
At Full Circle Beauty I use Circadia and GlyMed+ products — professional lines developed specifically for clinical results. Circadia's oxygen facial technology is genuinely remarkable for skin that needs both hydration and anti-aging support.
The Minimum That's Still Worth It
If budget or schedule only allows quarterly facials — that's still worth doing. Four times a year is infinitely better than zero. You won't see the cumulative transformation that monthly clients see, but you'll maintain a baseline of skin health that makes a real difference over time.
What I've Learned in Two Years of Doing This
The clients I've watched transform the most dramatically are the ones who commit to regular appointments and do the at-home work in between. Facials are powerful, but they're not magic — they're one part of a complete approach to skin health. My job is to be your partner in that, not just someone you visit when your skin is acting up.
If you're not sure what your skin actually needs, come in for a consultation. I'll look at your skin properly, ask the right questions, and tell you exactly what I'd recommend — and what I'd skip.
